Polish and Vietnamese artists will perform together during Polish Music Days in Hà Nội on November 24, 28 and 30 to celebrate the 100 years since Poland’s Independence Day. Pianists Joanna Marcinkowska and Nguyễn Việt Trung, accompanied by Hà Nội Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform “Piano Concerto No 1 Op 11 E minor” and “Piano Concerto No 2” by Frederic Chopin during the concert on November 24.

Composer Wojciech Czepiel will conduct the concert. The 58-year-old conductor directs the Baltic Philharmonic in Gdansk, the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Warsaw, the Symphony Orchestra of Krakow Music Academy and the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra in Beirut. As a guest conductor, he has performed with the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, the Qatar Philharmonic and the Palermo Symphony Orchestra. His compositions include sonatas for solo violins, songs for voice and piano and pieces for full orchestras.

Marcinkowska will perform a piano recital on November 28. The pieces in this concert include “Legend in A-flat major Op 16 No 1” by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, “Variations in B flat minor Op 3” by Karol Szymanowski, “Mazurka for piano solo” by Czepiel and “Nocturne in D flat major Op 27 No 2” by Chopin.

Marcinkowska has won awards at various international and Polish piano competitions and festivals. She has performed recitals and as a chamber musician and soloist for symphonic concerts in Poland as well as in many European countries, the US and China. She has co-operated with over 30 prominent Polish and foreign conductors as well as music groups and symphony orchestras.

Hanoi New Music Ensemble will perform on November 30. This was the first professional contemporary music ensemble in Việt Nam, founded in 2015. Its mission is to present new Vietnamese music throughout the country and to represent Việt Nam to international audiences. Its members are amongst the nation’s best professional musicians and teachers, serving as professors at the Việt Nam National Academy of Music and performing with the Việt Nam National Symphony Orchestra.

They will perform “Chain No 1” by Witold Lutoslawski, “Fall and Rise” by Nguyễn Minh Nhật, “Streets” by Vũ Nhật Tân and “Partita for Chamber Ensemble” by Czepiel.

Tân is a young composer of experimental orchestral, chamber, piano, electronic, computer and multimedia works that have been performed in Asia, Europe and the US. Born in 1997, Nhật earned a diploma in composition from the Việt Nam National Academy of Music in 2015 and has participated in various musical events at home and abroad. Nhật is currently an undergraduate studying composition at the Manhattan School of Music.

The concerts will take place at the Việt Nam National Academy of Music, 77 Hào Nam Street, Hà Nội, free entrance.
