Concert violinist Goto Ryu will make his debut in Viet Nam on Friday.

Famous Japanese-American concert violinist Goto Ryu will make his debut in Viet Nam at a concert in Ha Noi this week.

The 23-year-old artist started his music career at the age of seven, when he made his debut at the Pacific Music Festival playing Paganini's Violin Concerto No1.

Since then, Ryu has appeared as a soloist with international orchestras, ensembles and conductors, such as the London Philharmonic, Wiener Symphoniker, the European Union Youth Orchestra, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Lorin Maazel, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Fabio Luisi, Myung-Whun Chung, Tan Dun, and Jonathan Nott.

He also performed at the World Trade Centre site during the official September 11 commemoration ceremony in 2003, and at the peace memorial concerts in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 2005.

He has devoted his time and talent to fostering the development of young musicians across the world. His current efforts include serving as opening recitalist for Juilliard's Starling – DeLay Symposium on Violin Studies for promising young teachers and artists, and founding the "Ryu Goto Excellence in Music Initiative Scholarship" – a partnership with the NYC Department of Education to foster the development of high school musicians

Ryu was featured in Fuji TV show Ryu Goto's Odyssey, a chronicle of his career and personal growth between 1996-2006.

In 2005, Universal Music signed Goto to its Deutsche Grammophon label.

Currently a student at Harvard University majoring in Physics, Ryu plays with the university's Bach Society Orchestra.

During the concerts at the Ha Noi Opera House on Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Ryu will play with the Viet Nam National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Japanese conductor Honna Tetsuji.
