The  celebration of the 70th anniversary of establishment and receiving the second time of the Third Class Labor Medal of  Vietnamese institute for Musicology

On the morning of the 12th of December 2020, the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology solemnly held the 70thanniversary of establishing and receiving the second time of the Third Class Labor Medal. Participating in the ceremony were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ta Quang Dong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Phung Huy Can - Director of Department of Emulation and Reward, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Hoai Son - Director of Viet Nam National Institute of Culture and Arts, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Anh Tuan - Rector of Viet Nam National Academy of Music. 

The name of the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology has been changed many times: Music Section, Research Section for Music and Dance, Department for Music Research, Vietnamese Institute for Music Research, Institute of Music and Dance, Vietnamese Institute for Musicology. Its organization structure has been also changed: sometimes separated or merged between two majors of music and dance; sometimes, an independent or subordinate unit under another agency. Even the unit for management of the Institute has also changed many times (Department of Literature and Arts, Department of Music and Dance, Institute of Arts, Viet Nam Institute of Culture and Arts, Hanoi Conservatory of Music - currently Viet Nam National Academy of Music).

Those who have made the history of formation and development of the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology are first of all, experts in the field of music of different generations, remarkably the names of the first generation of musicians like Van Cao, Luu Huu Phuoc, Nguyen Xuan Khoat, To Vu, Hoang Kieu and Pham Dinh Sau and the names of the next generation such as To Ngoc Thanh, Lu Nhat Vu, Nguyen Xinh and Dang Hoanh Loan.

Since 2002, the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology has officially joined the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM) as a member state and actively contributed the voice as the representative of Viet Nam at ICTM's regular meeting at Continents: Europe, America, Asia, Africa.

The Vietnamese Institute for Musicology has been successful in playing the leading role in implementing the nomination files submitted to UNESCO, bringing Ca tru, Xoan singing, the Arts of Don ca Tai tu, Bai choi, Then on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong said: “For 70 years of establishment and development, the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology has written its own glorious history pages. Leaders and scientists through periods have tried their best to overcome the difficulties to build and develop comprehensively all aspects of activities from scientific research, collection, storage, transmission of traditional music in the community to music publications.

This worthy pride of achievements has been the results of creativity and efforts of generations of staffs, scientists during the development process since the first days of its establishment. This is shown through the noble awards of the Party, State, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism given to the collective of the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology.
